Worst updater award goes to Mary Katherine! My lack of updates could be attributed to the fact that I have been swimming around yearbook deadline, school work, college applications and essays, and well- life. I am completely overwhelmed with everything and all I really seem to want to do is sleep, but that usually doesn't work out.

New things:

+ I'm in love with fall and wish it felt like this outside 24/7. In Florida, we don't get all four seasons- we get hot, hotter, cool, and cooler. We're in the "cool" right now. It's been about 70 degrees around here, just cool enough to wear cardigans and not die from heat exhaustion.

+ I love Glee and wish I went to McKinley High :/

+ I am going to New Orleans in a few weeks and am making my first trip to a Torrid! I've only ever been able to order online and I finally get to go to a store and try clothes on, woot!

+ Halloween is on Friday! I'm tentatively planning to go to Rocky Horror at midnight with one of my friends, but I can't manage to pull together a costume :/

We were going to have another Yearbook sponsored costume dance, but that didn't work out. I don't have a costume/a place to dress up for this year.

This was a boring entry, but I am back in the saddle and promise to have things coming to you guys a lot more regularly and with a ton more enthusiasm!

FALL '09!

Phew! First week of senior year is over. Needless to say, I'm exhausted. My classes seem to be going well so far, and I'm excited about most of them. Honestly, I'm thrilled that I'm a senior and cannot wait until seniority really kicks in . :)

So, let me just say how awesome it was to wake up for the first few days of school and have new, fun clothes to wear! Seriously, what a relief because I know a lot of my stressful days are when I wear an outfit I'm uncomfortable in.

That was my first day of school outfit, haha.

Things I'm most excited about for fall:

1. Cardigans!

I could/would blow a millions dollars exclusively on cardigans... well... sort of.

Torrid has some beyond adorable, girly cardigans for fall.

2. Patterns!

Paired with some jeans and flats, these tops are perfect for the cooler weather and new school year.

3. DenimDenimDenim!

I'm trying really hard this year to make myself dress up at least once a week, (which hasn't worked out this first week, haha) but it's so hard when I really just live in jeans :|

So that's all I have as of now, but I look forward to next week :)

'Ello everyone! The light is seemingly different outside, notebooks and new and empty, and days are going to start becoming a lot longer. I love the beginning of school so much, I wish I could bottle it and just whip it out whenever I'm having a crappy day.

I'm most excited about new oufits and school bags, so I've put a couple outfits together:

The first is a casual day with some CROPPED, CUFFED, DARK WASH denim pants! :)

The second is a more dressy one with a great swing skirt dress & tuxedo pumps.

Model Search Experience

Happy ~~Wednesday~~ Thursday! As some of you may know, this weekend (July 17th-19th) is The 2009 House of Dreams Model Search going on at all the Torrid store locations as well as by downloadable application. Now, I have seen a lot of comments on the Torrid Facebook page, Myspace profile, etc. that say things that essentially mean, "If only there was a store around me! I would enter." This should not stop you from entering the search! Seriously, girls. I have never stepped foot in a Torrid in my life. Everything I've based my love for Torrid on is based solely on online shopping. The closest store to me is about three hours away in Gretna, Louisiana. Just because you don't have a store, doesn't mean you're less qualified for the search in any way, shape, or form. So, I encourage all of you girls that are kind of hesitant to not let it stop you and jump in! The application is all about you and be sure to spill about yourself. Also, don't let the photo freak you out when sending in an application. It's just as easy to stick a photo on a memory card to head to CVS, Target, Walgreens, Walmart, Kmart, or anywhere with a photo center and print out an 8x10 for under a dollar (I believe.)

Okay, so this is a beyond busy weekend for Torrid, because while the model search is going on, there's also going to be a Jordin Sparks listening party happening on the 18th from 3-6 p.m. During the listening party, you'll be able to listen to her entire album before it hits stores (Tuesday, July 21.) Also, you can pre-order her album this weekend and come by to pick it up on Tuesday, July 21.

Now, back to the model search. It was completely out of character for me to enter the High School Model Search and did it on a complete whim. I printed out my application and filled it out all a couple days before they were due. I printed out my head shot & body shot, which were taken by a family member and printed at home, at sent it out. I had kind of put the announcement of the winners on the back burner, because I was in the middle of final exams and just wrapping up the year. I actually got the call from Torrid while I was at the graduation commencement and spent the next couple days more excited than ever. I've really enjoyed blogging on being a part of this, it's such an experience! My clothes came in last week, from my first $250 gift card, and I'm so excited to wear them. I'm planning on taking some pictures of all of my outfits and will keep the blog updated on my purchases, :)

The Happening

Sorry this is so late, you guys- I've been kind of worn out. The weather here is miserable (in the high 90's to low 100's every day for the past weeks) and even though I could suck it up and go swim, I really don't even have the energy to do that. Not to mention that it hasn't rained much so the water is like bath water.. Anyway! This summer has been pretty low-key, but I have managed to do some things.

- In June, I went to New Orleans to see Coldplay, which kind of blew my mind. It was an

amazing show and a really wonderful city.

Also, I've been to a yearbook workshop in Auburn that I mentioned in my previous post, which was super fun. *I didn't take pictures here, ironically, but the campus was really pretty!

I guess you could say this summer is all about summer reading, working on my tan, my summer math class, seeing lots of movies, and sleeeeeeping!

I'm going to see Bruno, Away We Go, and Harry Potter so I'll be sure to write little reviews about what I thought about them :)

By the way, I've ordered my clothes from Torrid so by the next update I'll probably have pictures and write about them!

Some of the most important things in my wardrobe are my bags! They're an easy way to add a little extra to an outfit and they're pretty helpful- I keep just about everything in my bag. A "must have" for this 4th of July weekend is this buffalo check tote. This bag could store your bathing suit for a day at the beach, all of your beach goodies, and then when the sun goes down: a blanket to sit on while you watch the fireworks. The print on the tote is super funky and the pleating adds a cute detail. You can look stylish for less, because this bag is on sale on Torrid.com for $23!

Summer Style Secrets

So, I found it hard to come up with any "secrets" for my summer wardrobe, I just came up with some major pieces that I've figured out how to summer-ize (hehe). I've made a couple of outfits (via Torrid's awesome Dressing Room powered by Polyvore) that have a little bit of everything I've been wearing lately. The great thing about the dressing room is that everything I used is on the Torrid website! On to the outfits:

Hot Child In The City

I love this outfit for many reasons, but mostly because it's so versatile. I've paired it with some short black leggings and a pair of purple pumps to show a dressier edge, but you could 86 those leggings and wear some cute flats to dress it down.

A little tank dress can go a long way, as well. In the summer, I wear these with a contrasting tank underneath, (just because I layer everything...) and when it gets a little cooler, I can wear a cute striped t-shirt and even in the winter, you can add some leggings and boots and a cardigan! And I added a cute tote, which is super important because I am a bag fiend.

All Around The World

I'm not a fan of shorts, just because they're so high maintenance (all the pulling and tugging to make sure they don't ride up), so I opt for a less breezy, but just as comfortable option: Capris. Now, I know capris seem to have a bad rap (which was news to me!), but I wouldn't have a wardrobe without them. I have pretty short, chunky legs so cropped pants are perfect. But the most important thing about capris is the cuff. The cuff makes the pant and without it, they can very easily turn into a totally different look that I'm not very fond of (sparkle, graffiti, no pockets on the back, etc). Anyway! So I have a long, white tunic shirt (that could easily be paired with a black vest, which is slightly seen in my introduction post) and some snake gladiator-style sandals and a long, colorful charm necklace (since everything else in the outfit is black and white).

Coming Up Roses

I love tartan print! I put this puff sleeved top with some belted trouser shorts and some rosette sandals. I love roses and was really happy that I could find all of these rose patterned pieces of jewelry to make this outfit. This is a pretty simple, classy outfit that would be perfect for a night out for dinner and a movie.

Hello all!

I decided to make a little "about me" post before I start my other entries, so:

This is me :)

My name is Mary Katherine, sometimes I use a hyphen just to help people understand that I have two names- just like Sarah Jessica Parker, Mary Kate Olsen, Mary Louise Parker, etc. You can call me Mary Katherine or MK. Now that that's out of the way, I'm seventeen and I'm going to be a Senior in the fall. I live in a relatively small town in the panhandle of Florida. And...

- I'm Yearbook editor-in-chief and I love it.

- I want to work for a magazine after college. Either a music magazine, or a fashion magazine. I'm mildly obsessed with magazines & I regularly read: Nylon, Paste, Elle, Marie Claire, Bust, Rolling Stone, and Vogue. And I love finding new ones!

- I love makeup and perfume! My favorite makeup usually comes from Clinique, but I also love MAC and Benefit. I also seem to collect perfume, I wear Miss Dior Cherie, Escada Moon Sparkle, CK Euphoria Blossom, and I love patchouli (yeah, yeah).

- I really love the hippie movement, and I channel a couple aspects of it into my life, like most of my music and my style.

- I love Sex & the City, True Blood, The Office, Weeds, Dexter, Will & Grace, Freaks and Geeks, Arrested Development, and Scrubs.

- I also have a giant list of favorite movies, but some of my favorites are Sixteen Candles, Almost Famous, Dazed and Confused, Forrest Gump, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall (I love Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, and Russell Brand!).

- I want to go to Florida State University and thinking about a major in English with a minor in Film Studies.

- Cherry Limeades are the key to my heart.

- I love HAIR the musical!
